Do you have open plan classrooms?

We have single classrooms across all year levels throughout the school.

Does the school assign homework?

We believe that homework tasks assist students by complementing and reinforcing learning that is occurring within the classroom. It also assists in the development of life-long learning, study skills and work habits. At the Prep year level we encourage good reading habits by reading daily.

How do you care for the health of our children?

At Altona Meadows Primary School the teaching staff and most education support staff are trained in First Aid at Level 2. All staff have a current accreditation in Asthma Management, Epilepsy, and Anaphylaxis Management. If required students have access to first aid throughout the day and are cared for by our trained staff. We are also fortunate to have a teacher (Reachel Armstrong) who is a registered nurse who can be relied on for help as well.

Do you run before and after school care, or vacation care?

Do you have a buddy program?

Our very successful Prep-Grade 6 buddy program provides many opportunities for all students in these year levels. It allows our students to develop and form strong connections with our Grade 6 students who often help and support the Prep students with playground transition. It also gives our Grade 6 students the chance to show leadership, demonstrate AMPS' core values and be positive role models to our junior students. The Prep Buddy program runs weekly and incorporates many fun and hands-on activities to promote friendship and inclusion between all at AMPS.

Am I able to volunteer at AMPS?

Volunteers are an integral part of Altona Meadows Primary School. We extend our gratitude to those who have assisted and those who continue to be active members of our school community. They are very much appreciated and any new parents wishing to join are warmly welcomed.

Our volunteers contribute in many ways at AMPS, including assisting with supervision of students in educational programs (including the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program), preparing food for our Breakfast Club and Fresh Fruit Friday programs, maintaining our school grounds, operating our canteen and through various fundraising efforts.

AMPS encourages parents, carers and members of our community to assist at our school. Please note that all AMPS volunteers require a current and valid Working With Children Check (WWCC), triple COVID vaccination, along with a signed Child Safe Code of Conduct Agreement.

Year 5 and 6 three days two nights – Alternating years between the beach and the bush – Beach camp at Queenscliff and bush camp to Kyneton.

The swimming lessons are held during the school day and are 45 minutes in duration, with an instructor/student ratio of around 1:8. Classes attend this program in single class groupings. We encourage all students to attend the swimming program.

There is an associated fee for participation in the swimming program.
