Uniform Policy
The
wearing of school uniform is compulsory for all students attending Altona
Meadows P.S. School Council considers that school uniform encourages pride in our
school and helps children feel part of the AMPS community. It also helps
parents by avoiding competitiveness in children’s dress.
School
Council will approve the uniform design and any subsequent changes to it. Basic
elements of the uniform will be non discriminatory (uni-sex), practical -
suitable for sport and recreation activities, reasonably priced and readily
available. Optional alternatives may be included to offer a choice of
suitable clothing specifically for boys and girls. The uniform will cater
for summer and winter seasons.
Management
School
Council will establish a Uniform Sub-Committee with a Council member as
convenor, staff and parent representation. Other interested persons may
be co-opted to the committee.
The Uniform Sub-Committee will be
responsible for the day-to-day management of uniform supplies, ordering and
sales and the operation of a uniform shop. It will make policy and
uniform design recommendations to School Council and report on a regular basis.
The
uniform shop will maintain reasonable stocks of the basic uniform items
covering a range of sizes; it will also arrange for the laundering and resale
of second hand uniform if and when available.
The shop
will be open on Wednesday’s 9.00 – 9.30am.
Parents
will be given the opportunity to purchase uniform including optional items by
order throughout the year.
For
families who have difficulty affording uniform the school may be able to seek
assistance on their behalf. Parents need to make an appointment to see
the Principal or Assistant Principal.
Uniform
and School Rules
The
Principal and staff will be responsible for managing the wearing of compulsory
uniform.
All staff
will promote the wearing of school uniform through positive reinforcement.
Children
are especially required to wear school uniform when attending excursions and
special events unless otherwise instructed by the Principal or teacher in
charge. Children not meeting this requirement will be excluded from the
excursion or special event unless clean second hand items are available for
them to wear.
From time
to time children may have to attend school not wearing uniform (eg. all in
the wash) - on these occasions it is expected that the parent will provide an
explanatory note.
Where
children continue to not wear uniform without a satisfactory explanation from
the parent they may be asked to use a clean second hand item, or be excluded
from the activity at the Principal’s discretion.
Continued
non-wearing of uniform without valid reason will result in a telephone call and/or
interview with the parents and possible discipline procedures.
