Learning and Teaching Policy
At Altona Meadows our teaching and learning practices are aimed at improving outcomes of all students. AMPS curriculum aims to provide each student with a range of appropriate experiences, which will:
Assist them to improve their own learning.
Promote improvement to the point of excellence in learning and
Develop our students’ self esteem, confidence and independence.
Guidelines for action:
At AMPS we make basic assumptions about learning which under pins our actions.
These are:
All students want to learn and are capable of learning.
Is best supported in classrooms which promote a co-operative approach to learning.
A curriculum that is broad and comprehensive will develop the abilities of each student.
Curriculum teams and unit teams, therefore attempt to develop teaching and learning approaches which:
Build upon previous learning, which will lead to future learning.
Focus on creating situations where students can practice and apply their skills and knowledge.
Build confidence in the use of inquiry process, experimenting and creative activities.
Assist students in active participation in their learning, by presenting Integrated Curriculum approaches to learning.
Match teaching styles to learning styles.
Enhance co-operation and support between students, students and teachers, student teachers and parents.
Foster risk taking.
Plan situations, which build self-awareness and enjoyment.
Our
curriculum is based on recommended DET – Curriculum Guidelines. Each curriculum
area has written policy, which describes in greater detail the expected
“teaching and learning” input and outcomes for that curriculum area. This
statement governs and reflects all curriculum areas.
