Environmental Context:

In 1982 Altona Meadows Primary School was established in a residential area in the City of Hobsons Bay in the western suburbs of Melbourne from a diverse multicultural background. The current enrolment is approximately 350 students which has remained consistent over the past six years
The school is committed to an educational environment where:

Comprehensive, developmental courses are provided in English, Mathematics, Italian, Physical Education and Sport, Studies of Society and Environment, Science, Technology and the Arts based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards-VELS.
Emphasis is placed on the development of:
- Literacy and Numeracy skills
- Specialist programs designed to improve student learning outcomes within available resources include; Music, Library, Physical Education, LOTE- Italian, Art, English as a Second Language, Reading Recovery, and Literacy Support.
- Other exciting and extension programs include; Early Year & Middle years programs, Literacy and Numeracy extension, Electives and Clubs, PMP, Swimming & Camp, Compass Award, Drug Education, Worksafe Kids, Breakfast and Fruit Clubs, Walking Club, a Social Skills /Values program, SRC and Hobsons Bay Junior Council, Homework Help, Recorder, Parent Helpers training and P-6 Buddies, Walking School Bus, Go For Your Life Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. We are a Bulldogs Friendly School.
Many programs are presented using an integrated curriculum approach with particular attention to co-operative learning strategies and individualised teaching.

During 2001, 2 buildings were constructed consisting of 10 general purpose classrooms. We still have 3 mod 5 classrooms. All areas are now fully air conditioned. A canteen operates 5 days per week.
2008 saw the completion of our New Kitchen facility completed. We are in the process of extending our vegetable gardens.
Secure grounds include adequate sealed play areas, a large oval, adventure playgrounds, extensive shaded and passive areas, a large open shelter and developing garden areas. All are encompassed within a 3-metre high perimeter fence.
The school is well equipped with modern audiovisual equipment, a computer lab and classroom PC computers with controlled internet access.
The parent community is very supportive of the school and provides valuable assistance through School Council, assisting in class and excursion activities, manning the uniform shop and working on fundraising projects.
